Our Roots

A family of entrepreneurs over seven generations

Hottinger is a family of entrepreneurs that has shaped the history of finance since the 18th century. We are proud heirs to this tradition which stands out thanks to its independence.

The Hottinger family’s roots in Zurich go back to the 15th century. It was in the 18th century that the family’s path joined the banking industry when Jean-Conrad Hottinger (1764-1841) founded a banking establishment in 1786.

Heirs to a family tradition linked to the field of finance since the 18th century, Jean-Philippe, François and Emmanuel Hottinger created the company that would become Hottinger SA in 1992. Jean-Conrad Hottinger joined as a partner the same year. He is the first representative of the seventh generation of the family to work for the company.

Two family representatives

A branch office was opened in Geneva in 1999. Today, Hottinger SA is managed by two family representatives, Jean-Conrad and David, and is present in Europe and Latin America through a network of partners.

The legal form of the company changed from a limited partnership (SCS) to a limited company (SA) in 2013. Hottinger SA is subject to the supervision of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) and has the status of a securities firm.

Please note that the liquidation of Hottinger Bank in Switzerland in 2013 is in no way related to our company or to our family members.

Two family representatives

To inscribe one’s activity in the continuity of a family tradition is anything but trivial. It is a responsibility, an inspiration, a deep energy to serve our clients even better and to meet the challenges of the future.
